The book is broken down into sections on coloring, inking, lettering, scripting, pencilling, and plotting. Plenty of examples in blue line for inking, coloring, etc. It is printed on very heavy paper just like the real artists use. This is an informative look at what goes into the making of a comic book and a nice collectible to boot.

Before Walter Simonson’s work with Marvel and DC, there was Star Slammers, a series first devised by Simonson during his college days. The Slammers would later be resurrected as a Marvel graphic novel, and then a miniseries. Simonson describes it thus: “Once upon a time, there was a race of men who could out-shoot, out-fight, and out-kill anybody. They were paid fabulous sums to act as mercenaries. The practice became so lucrative, they decided to go into business. They became the most successful businessmen in history, and they called themselves… The Star Slammers!” The collected Star Slammers also features—published here for the very first time—Simonson’s earliest version of the Slammers created for his college thesis at the Rhode Island School of Design. These stories predate his first professional comics work but strongly show the artist’s keen sense of composition and design.

Mid-way through the run Moore brought the Special Executive, a team he had created for stories in Doctor Who Monthly, into the Captain Britain strip, and subsequent issues reprinted their earlier appearances; when those finished, Moore wrote the one-off Grit, a pastiche on Miller’s Daredevil, and a few issues later Davis wrote and drew a Batman-parody, The Crusader.

In vivid color, this history of music presents the salient moments of one of mankind’s most exalting ventures. The first use of simple work songs, the severity of the Gregorian chant and the carefree tunes of the minstrels, the polyphony of Medieval times and the great musical diversity of the Renaissance, the fruitfulness of Handel and the unmatched perfectionism of Beethoven, the patriotic impetus of Verdi and the touching lyricism of Puccini, the primordial rhythms of Stravinsky and the unorthodox, experimental compositions of Cage. These and other highlights of musical history are represented in striking cartoon drawings that amuse as well as inform. The protagonists of this history have not built skyscrapers or founded kingdoms. They have not crossed tempestuous oceans or boldly set foot on the moon. With much devotion, they have simply revealed to our minds and hearts the purest and most beautiful of universes.
